ELESA goes green

Environmental sustainability in all production processes is an increasingly important aspect to which Elesa always paid close attention.

Recently, Elesa signed a contract with A2A - with effect from 1st January 2020 to 31st December 2020, renewable year by year - to use only electricity from 100% renewable sources in its production plant in Monza, i.e. energy produced through the use of natural resources (water, sunlight, wind, tides, geothermal heat etc.) which therefore do not involve CO2 emissions (which are instead produced by burning coal, oil and gas, for example)

Explains Dr. Andrea Bertani, Executive Director - Finance & Administration:

"This supply will have a slightly higher cost but we believe that this and many other efforts must be made by everyone in the world (companies, citizens, governments) to reduce global emissions as soon as possible and in any case bring them to zero within 2-3 decades: an objective, this, and a challenge of a difficulty never encountered before by human civilization and which can only be achieved if we all consider it an emergency and act accordingly.

A2A, the primary Italian national electricity supplier, favours hydroelectric energy produced with water from reservoirs located on the Italian Alps, not far from the Elesa headquarters in Monza. Water represents also one of the few storable renewable sources.

Water is an element that continually renews itself following its natural cycle and it is among the main alternative resources to fossil fuels for energy production.

The A2A hydroelectric plants are both flowing water, directly using the flow of a water course, and storage, using dams to collect the water upstream of the plants.

A substantial part of these plants is included in areas of high naturalistic value such as the Stelvio National Park, reason why A2A is working every day, with the awareness that its use is constantly accompanied by correct management and protection activities and safeguard.
